Introduction: Choose Empowerment This Thanksgiving
We wanted to talk today about something we’ve been hearing so much from our clients… this whole “bad food” mindset, especially with Thanksgiving coming up. Holidays can bring up a lot of pressure, guilt, or confusion around what you “should” eat.
So we want to help you break up with that mindset once and for all.
Choosing What You Want to Eat
Food is everywhere this week. And that’s okay.
The goal isn’t to avoid it — the goal is to choose intentionally.
You are not cheating on anything.
You’re not being “good” or “bad.”
You’re eating. That’s it.
And you don’t have to eat something just because someone else wants you to.
Sheena: You don’t need to force down Aunt Edna’s meat pie just because she’ll be offended. If you don’t want it, don’t eat it. Set that boundary. You are allowed to say, “No thank you.”
This is your plate and your body. You choose what goes on it and what goes IN it.
Food Isn’t Moral. You’re Not Good or Bad Because of a Meal.
One of the biggest things we coach on is this idea that food does not have moral value.
There are no “bad” foods.
There are no “good” foods.
There are just foods with different nutritional profiles.
The second you attach morality . “I was so bad” or “I was good today”, you create guilt, shame, and a sense that you either passed or failed. That mindset spirals people more than the food ever could.
Practice Makes Progress (Not Perfection)
Every time you eat is simply an opportunity to practice.
Practice checking in with your hunger.
Practice choosing intentionally.
Practice stopping when you’re satisfied.
Practice enjoying your favorite foods without guilt.
And after the meal?
You move on.
You don’t punish yourself.
You don’t start over.
You don’t restrict the next day.
You keep going.
One meal does not determine your health.
Your habits do.
Focus on What You’re Excited About
Instead of stressing about “staying perfect,” shift your focus to what you’re looking forward to eating.
Sheena: I am very excited about apple pie.
Gwen: And I’m excited to make a pumpkin parfait instead of pie this year.
It’s about creating a holiday experience you enjoy — without guilt, without restriction, without drama.
Don’t Let Diet Culture Steal Your Holiday
You can enjoy Thanksgiving fully without feeling out of control and without judging yourself.
Eat the foods you love.
Skip the foods you don’t want.
Make aligned choices that feel good for your body.
Practice presence.
Enjoy the moment.
And remember — it’s just one day.
